Description

A compact base finished in black with satin nickel, both in a satin sheen rather than a bright polish. The nickel reads as a quiet contrast against the black rather than a bright trim. It sits low, so it works under a small shade or bare with a decorative bulb doing the looking. A toggle switch on the body puts control at hand height instead of on the flex down by the floor. The E27 lampholder takes the familiar pear-shaped GLS bulbs, round globes, a squirrel cage or a slim tubular, up to 40W.

We would use it on a bedside table, a hallway console or a shelf in a snug, wherever you want a small pool of light rather than a whole room lit. Because the base is short and narrow, it earns its place where a full lamp and shade would crowd everything else off the surface. It suits a first flat, a spare bedroom or a desk corner that needs a little warmth in the evening. It is one we reach for when someone wants light beside a bed without a big shade at eye level. Pair it with a dimmable bulb and a dimmer on the circuit and the level comes down for late reading.

Double insulated in use and intended for dry rooms indoors, it is a straightforward piece of kit with nothing to adjust once the bulb is in. Keep the black and the nickel looking their best with an occasional dry wipe, and switch off at the socket before you go near the holder. It carries a one year warranty.
