ESP MAGfire 12V Combined Smoke & Heat Detector With Relay Base

The ESP MAGfire CSD212 is a 12V combined smoke and heat detector supplied with a relay base for conventional fire alarm systems. The detector carries dual EN54-5 (heat) and EN54-7 (smoke) certification, allowing it to detect both smoke particles and rapid temperature rise from a single ceiling-mounted point. It operates on 9-30VDC supply voltage and is classified as A1R (combined heat and smoke, with relay output).

Designed for commercial fire alarm installations where a single detector needs to respond to both heat and smoke, the CSD212 suits applications including small offices, plant rooms, storage areas and mixed-use commercial spaces where ceiling height and room function make dual-mode detection more reliable than separate devices. The included relay base provides a volt-free contact output that can trigger ancillary equipment such as door closers, extract fans or alarm panels when the detector activates.

The white ABS housing mounts to a standard UK fire alarm detector base (included) and sits approximately 50mm below the ceiling line once installed. The relay base accepts standard two-core or four-core fire-rated cable depending on whether the relay output is used. The detector's sensitivity to both smoke and heat means it can respond to smouldering fires (smoke mode) and fast-flaming fires (heat mode) without requiring separate devices or additional wiring runs.

What's the difference between combined smoke/heat detection and separate detectors?

A combined detector responds to both smoke particles and rapid temperature rise from a single point, reducing the number of ceiling penetrations and cable runs needed. Separate detectors allow more precise zoning and can be optimised for specific room conditions, but require more installation work. The CSD212 suits smaller zones where dual-mode detection from one device is more practical than running two detector circuits.

What does the relay base do?

The relay base provides a volt-free contact output when the detector activates. This contact can be wired to trigger ancillary equipment such as automatic door closers, extract fans, magnetic door holders or remote alarm panels. The relay output is independent of the main fire alarm loop, allowing the detector to integrate with building management systems or standalone safety devices.

Is this compatible with addressable fire alarm panels?

No. The CSD212 is a conventional detector designed for two-wire or four-wire conventional fire alarm loops. It cannot be used on addressable systems that require unique device IDs. Check with your fire alarm panel manufacturer if you're uncertain whether your system is conventional or addressable.

What ceiling height is this rated for?

Consult the EN54-5 and EN54-7 installation guidelines and your fire risk assessment for ceiling height limits. Most combined smoke/heat detectors are effective up to 6-7m ceiling heights in typical commercial environments, but specific ratings depend on room volume, ventilation and local fire safety regulations.
