Elm 3 Light G9 Ceiling Light 52.5cm - Antique Brass

A shallow round fitting, clear glass held on an antique brass frame, sitting close to the ceiling rather than hanging into the room. Three G9 capsules sit behind the glass, and because it is clear you see the lamps and the brass through it, which keeps something 52cm wide from feeling heavy overhead. It will work on a dimmer if the capsules you buy are dimmable, and we would reach for LED ones.

Wide and low, it suits rooms where headroom is short: hallways, landings, bedrooms with sloping ceilings, and dining areas in a flat where a pendant would be in the way. The spread covers a decent area, so it can do the general lighting in a modest sitting room with a lamp or two beside it for the evening. Sparkle from the clear glass gives it a little dress-sense, which suits period rooms as readily as plain modern ones. Keep it to dry rooms indoors; a bathroom or a covered porch needs a fitting rated for moisture.

The glass is the whole of the look here, so it is worth keeping clear: dust the brass with a dry cloth, and when the glass dulls, wipe it with a barely damp one and dry it off, with the light switched off and the capsules cool before you start. The antique brass has a warm, slightly darkened tone that settles well against older woodwork and warm white paint. It carries a one year warranty. Lamps are not included.

What lamps does it take?

Three G9 capsules, up to 10W each. LED capsules are the sensible choice and are what we would put in it.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you fit dimmable G9 capsules and use a compatible dimmer. No dimmer is supplied with the light.

How wide and how deep is it?

It measures 52.5cm across and 18cm from the ceiling, so it reads as broad and shallow rather than dropping into the room.

How do I clean the glass?

With the light off and the capsules cool, wipe the glass with a barely damp cloth and dry it straight away. Use a dry cloth only on the brass.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated for dry indoor rooms, so choose a moisture rated fitting for bathrooms, shower rooms and sheltered outdoor areas.

Is there a version with more lamps?

Yes, the same 52.5cm fitting is made as a five light, in antique brass and in polished chrome.
