The Ellerwick builds its base from stacked rectangles in satin nickel, topped with a shade in a natural colour. It stands 500mm tall, 360mm wide and 170mm deep, so the profile is rectangular rather than round, which lets it sit flat against a wall or in a shallow alcove where a drum shade would overhang. One 10W E27 LED lamp does the work. At 2.9kg it is stable on a console or a bedside table, and rated IP44 it handles splashing water better than most table lamps do.

The flat footprint is the reason we reach for the Ellerwick in narrow spaces: hall consoles, shallow bedside tables, a windowsill, or a desk pushed against a wall. The stacked geometry gives the base something to look at while the lamp is off, which counts for a fitting that spends daylight hours unlit. Light travels up and down from the open shade, washing the wall behind and putting a usable pool on the surface below. Satin nickel is the cooler of the two finishes in the Ellerwick range and sits well with grey, blue and off white schemes.

The base is metal in a satin nickel finish and the shade is a plain rectangular one in a natural colour, which keeps the light warm rather than crisp. Construction is Class 2 and double insulated. Dust the shade with a soft brush and wipe the metal with a barely damp cloth, drying it at once so water does not mark the satin surface, and avoid polishes and abrasive creams. Let the lamp cool before changing it. If you prefer a warmer metal, the Ellerwick also comes in antique brass with a black shade, and the two read as a set without being identical.
