Clear glass and polished chrome make an easy pairing, bright without shouting. The fitting sits close against the ceiling on a slim chrome plate, its glass gathered around three candle lamps so light spreads sideways as much as down. At 32cm across it reads as a neat, contained circle rather than a wide sweep, and the clear glass keeps the look airy in a room that cannot spare much height.

It is one we reach for where a pendant would hang too low: hallways, landings, a bedroom where headroom matters, a dining room under a lower ceiling. Small candle lamps in the E14 size suit it, and if you fit dimmable ones on a dimmer switch the room will drop to a softer level for the evening. The light it gives is general and ambient rather than directed, so pair it with a table lamp if you want reading light in the same room. It is intended for dry rooms indoors, away from splashes and steam.

The shades are clear glass, held on a chrome-finished metal body; the chrome catches light and the glass passes it on, which is why the fitting looks larger lit than unlit. Keep it looking right by switching off at the wall, letting everything cool, then lifting dust from the glass with a soft dry cloth and finishing with a barely damp one on the chrome. Fingermarks on polished metal show more than most finishes, so a quick buff dry afterwards helps. It carries a one year warranty. What size is it?

It measures 320mm in diameter with an overall height of 300mm, of which the body accounts for 245mm. It weighs 3.1kg.

Which lamps does it take?

Three E14 candle lamps, up to 20W each. LED candles in the C35 shape, including flame tip styles, are what we would choose here, and they are not supplied with the fitting.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you use dimmable lamps and a compatible dimmer switch. No dimmer is included.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20, so keep it to dry rooms such as halls, bedrooms and living spaces rather than bathrooms or covered outdoor areas.

How do I clean the glass?

Turn the power off and let the lamps cool, then dust the glass with a soft dry cloth. For smears, use a cloth just dampened with water and dry the glass and chrome straight after. Avoid abrasive creams and solvent sprays.
