E27 Ceiling Light 18cm Amber - Pewter

The shade is a wine glass shape in amber glass, cupped in a pewter frame with dark grey metalwork, and it sits tight against the ceiling rather than dropping on a rod or flex. At 18cm across it is a small fitting, so it reads as a neat pool of colour overhead instead of a shape you have to work around. The amber glass warms the light as it passes through, and because the E27 socket accepts several lamp shapes, from a plain GLS to a globe or a slim tubular, you can choose how much of the lamp shows through the glass.

This is one we reach for in halls, on landings, in cloakrooms and in bedrooms with a low ceiling, anywhere a hanging pendant would sit awkwardly close to head height. It also works well doubled up along a corridor, where the warm glass keeps a run of fittings from feeling clinical. It takes a single lamp up to 20W and will dim if you pair a dimmable lamp with a compatible dimmer, which is worth doing in a bedroom. Wiring is earthed, and it is intended for dry rooms indoors rather than bathrooms or porches.

Glass and metal throughout, with the pewter finish carrying a soft grey sheen rather than a mirror shine, and the darker grey detail giving the frame some depth. For care, turn the power off and let things cool, then wipe the amber glass with a dry lint free cloth; fingermarks lift with a slightly damp cloth, dried straight away. It carries a one year warranty. It measures 180mm in diameter and projects 230mm from the ceiling, so it is a small fitting suited to compact rooms and lower ceilings.

Which lamp should I use?

It takes an E27 lamp up to 20W. LED versions of the GLS A60, globe G80, ST64 and tubular T45 shapes all suit the glass, and the choice changes how much of the lamp you see.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you use a dimmable lamp with a compatible dimmer. Neither the lamp nor the dimmer is supplied.

How do I clean the glass?

No. It is rated IP20, which makes it a fitting for dry interior rooms rather than bathrooms, shower rooms or covered outdoor areas.
