Description

The shade here is a wine glass in amber, held mouth down against a slim antique brass plate, so the glass reads warm and honeyed the moment the lamp is on. It measures 18cm across, which keeps it neat and close to the ceiling. A single E27 lamp sits inside, rated to 20W, and the amber tint softens the light without dulling it.

We reach for this where a pendant would hang too low: a hallway with a low ceiling, the turn of a landing, a small bedroom, or a kitchen where head height matters. It belongs in dry rooms, away from shower zones and anywhere it would take steam. It will dim, provided you pair it with a dimmable lamp and a matching dimmer, neither supplied. Choose a globe or a GLS lamp if you want the shape of the filament to show through the amber glass, or a tubular lamp for something quieter.

The glass is tinted through rather than coated, and the metalwork wears an antique brass finish with the slight depth of an aged plate instead of a bright one. For a fitting this compact, the stem and cup form still gives it some presence. To clean, wait until the glass is cold, take the dust off with a barely damp cloth and dry it straight away; the brass asks for nothing more than a dry duster. It carries a one year warranty. The wine glass shape is also offered in matt black, matt white, antique copper, polished chrome, black chrome and satin nickel, and the range runs to jar, globe and diamond glass shapes as well.
