Description

Small, switched and quietly practical, this is a wall light 10cm across, finished in satin nickel with black. The toggle switch sits on the fitting itself, so the light can be brought up from where you are standing rather than from the door. An E27 socket takes a lamp of up to 20W, and we would choose a warm LED for it. The proportions are compact enough that it reads as useful light rather than a centrepiece.

We use lights like this in pairs at a bedside, where a switch to hand matters more than reach, and on their own in a hallway, on a landing, or beside a desk in a small study. With the switch built in, it earns its place where no wall switch falls conveniently close. It will dim if a dimmable lamp is paired with a compatible dimmer, though neither of those comes with it. Keep it to dry rooms indoors; a shower room or a porch asks for a sealed fitting instead.

The satin nickel holds a soft, low sheen that sits happily against black ironmongery and darker paint, and the two finishes together keep it from looking flat. For upkeep, run a dry duster over the body now and then; marks lift with a barely damp cloth and a dry wipe straight after, with the power off and the lamp cool. It carries a one year warranty, and the lamp is not included. The range extends to ceiling lights in satin nickel, matt black, matt white, polished chrome, black chrome, antique brass, antique copper, gilt bronze and pewter, along with curved pendant frames for anything bolder overhead.
