Description

A small switched wall light with a toggle switch on the body and an open E27 holder at the end of a short arm. The finish pairs antique brass with black, so the metal reads warm rather than bright. It takes an E27 lamp of up to 20W, and because the holder is on show the lamp you choose does much of the styling: a clear globe, a squirrel cage, or a plain opal round if you want the light softer.

We reach for this where a room wants light at shoulder height and nothing more: beside a bed, along a hallway, above a reading chair, or in pairs either side of a dressing mirror. The switch on the fitting means it is controlled where it sits, which is why it earns its keep in bedrooms where one person reads and the other would rather not. Dimming is possible if you fit a dimmable lamp and pair it with a compatible dimmer, neither of which comes with the light. Keep it to dry rooms indoors; steam and splashing are not its territory.

The backplate measures 10cm across and the arm holds the lamp clear of the wall without crowding a narrow landing. Give the finish an occasional pass with a dry cloth and leave metal polish in the cupboard, since it would rub back the aged tone the brass is meant to have; let the lamp go cold before you change it. It carries a one year warranty. The wider range runs to ceiling lights in antique brass and a good spread of other finishes, including matt black, satin nickel, pewter and polished chrome, plus curved pendant frames in antique brass with black, so a hallway and a dining table can be kept in step. Lamps are chosen separately.
