Description

This clear ribbed glass shade is a replacement component for Elstead's Douille range of vintage-style pendant lights and wall fittings. The shade is bell-shaped with vertical ribbing running from rim to base, creating a fluted surface that catches and refracts light through the glass. The 28mm fitter ring at the top clips onto standard UK pendant lampholders and wall bracket arms used across the Douille collection.

Designed to pair with exposed filament bulbs, the clear glass provides minimal light diffusion, allowing the full brightness and character of the bulb to be visible while the ribbing adds visual texture to the fixture when lit. The shade suits dining pendants, kitchen task lights and bedroom reading lights where a clean, functional glass shade is required. The bell profile directs light downwards, making it effective for task lighting over worktops and tables.

The ribbed surface breaks up flat reflections and adds dimensionality to the shade when viewed from different angles. The clear glass allows the shade to pair neutrally with any wall or ceiling colour without introducing a tint to the light output. At approximately 110mm height and 100mm diameter, the shade provides coverage for standard E27 and B22 bulbs without overwhelming compact wall brackets or multi-pendant arrangements.

Frequently Asked

What fittings does this shade fit?

The 28mm fitter ring is compatible with pendant lampholders and wall bracket arms in Elstead's Douille range. It may also fit other vintage-style fittings with a similar lampshade carrier diameter, but verify the fitter size before ordering if using outside the Douille collection.

Does the ribbing diffuse the light?

The vertical ribbing creates visual texture but provides minimal light diffusion. The clear glass transmits most of the light directly, so bulb choice determines the final light quality. Pair with a warm-white filament bulb for soft ambient light, or a bright LED for task lighting.

Is the glass toughened?

The shade is standard clear glass, not toughened. Handle with care during installation and cleaning. The ribbed structure adds some strength compared to smooth thin glass, but the shade can still chip or crack if dropped or struck.

Can it be used in bathrooms?

No. It has no stated IP rating, so it is for dry rooms only.
