Double Blanking Plate - Orange

Orange is rarely a colour chosen by accident, and that is rather the point of this one. It is a two gang blank in a screwless plate style, so the visible face carries no screw heads and reads as a clean rectangle of colour. There are no rockers, no apertures and no markings to break it up. Moulded in ABS, it is light in the hand and smooth to the touch, with the orange carried right across the face.

A coloured blank of this sort earns its keep wherever a run needs to be told apart at a glance: workshops and plant cupboards, comms and server rooms, garages, and rehearsal or hire spaces where kit is forever being moved about. We reach for one when a wall of identical white plates makes it too easy to reach for the wrong thing. It also has a place in purely decorative work, on a games room wall, in a child's room or anywhere orange is already in the paint or the joinery, where a plain white cover would sit awkwardly.

ABS suits this job: it shrugs off knocks, it will not corrode and it holds its colour under regular handling. Keep it looking right with a barely damp cloth, a little mild soap if fingermarks build up, and nothing abrasive or solvent based, since those leave plastic looking cloudy. It is intended for dry rooms indoors, so we would not put it anywhere it might be splashed or left out in the weather. It carries a ten year warranty. Set against a row of white plates it works as an obvious marker, and against dark paint it turns into an accent instead. A cloth wrung out in warm water with a touch of mild soap is plenty. Avoid abrasive creams, wipes and solvent cleaners, as these can dull the surface of the plastic.
