Description

A flat cover plate in midnight blue, made to close off a double position on the wall where a socket or switch is not wanted. The screwless front is an unbroken rectangle with no visible fixing heads to catch the eye, so it reads as a considered part of the wall rather than a spare piece of hardware. The colour is a deep, inky blue with a soft sheen, dark enough to hold its own against strong paint yet quiet enough that it does not draw attention to itself.

It earns its place after a rewire or a rearrangement, where an old television point or a redundant switch position has been taken out of service and the opening left behind needs tidying. We use plates like this in bedrooms, home offices, hallways and behind fitted furniture, anywhere a blank face is neater than a fitting nobody uses. It suits anyone matching hardware across a room in one colour, and it is our answer when a wall is nearly finished and one gap is spoiling the run. Indoor rooms only, and dry ones at that, so keep it away from shower zones and unheated outbuildings.

The plate is moulded in polycarbonate, a tough plastic that takes a smooth, even finish and will not mark as readily as a painted metal face. Keep it looking right with an occasional wipe using a barely damp cloth, then dry it off; skip the kitchen sprays, cream cleaners and anything with solvent in it, as these can dull the surface over time. It carries a ten year warranty. Being a blank, there is nothing to switch, lamp or wire on the face, which is rather the point of it. Set against pale plaster it draws a crisp dark line, while on a deeper wall colour it more or less disappears, and that is usually what customers are after.

Frequently Asked

What is a blanking plate for?

It covers a wall position that is no longer in use, such as an old aerial or television point that has been disconnected, giving a neat blank face instead of an open gap.

What size is it?

It is a double sized plate, 146mm long by 88mm high, with a depth of 25mm behind the face.

What is the plate made from?

Polycarbonate, a hard-wearing moulded plastic finished in midnight blue.

Can I use it in a bathroom or outdoors?

No. It is rated for indoor use only and should be kept to dry rooms, away from splash zones and outdoor positions.

Are there any screws on show?

No. It is a screwless style, so the visible face stays clean with no fixing heads breaking it up.

How should I clean it?

A lightly damp cloth followed by a dry one. Avoid abrasive creams and solvent-based cleaners, which can take the sheen off the plastic.
