Description
A blanking plate does one job and does it neatly: it closes off an opening that no longer has a switch, socket or module behind it. This one is a two gang size in light grey, with a flat face and no screw heads showing, so nothing interrupts the front. The plastic is moulded rather than plated, which gives a soft, even grey that sits well against pale walls and painted timber. It is a small piece of hardware, but a missing one is the sort of thing the eye finds straight away.
We are asked for these most often after a refit or a change of layout: a redundant aerial socket in a bedroom, an old switch position by a doorway that now works from elsewhere, or a row of points in a kitchen reduced when the units changed. Landlords and letting agents tend to keep a couple spare for the same reason. It suits any dry indoor room, from hallways and landings to sitting rooms and utility spaces, and we would choose it wherever grey plates are already the theme on the walls rather than white.
The body is polycarbonate, a tough plastic that takes knocks well and keeps its colour, and the screwless format leaves the front smooth and easy to keep looking tidy. Wipe it over with a cloth lightly dampened in warm water; cleaners with solvents in them can dull the surface, so leave those in the cupboard. It carries a ten year warranty. Sitting alongside grey switches and sockets it quietly joins the line, and used on its own it still reads as a considered finish rather than a patched hole.

Frequently Asked
What size is this plate?
It measures 146mm across by 88mm tall, the standard double plate footprint, with a 25mm depth figure.
What is a blanking plate for?
It covers an opening where a switch, socket or module is no longer wanted, giving a clean flat face instead of a gap.
What is it made of?
Moulded polycarbonate in a light grey finish, a hard-wearing material chosen for plates that get brushed past daily.
How should I clean it?
A cloth lightly dampened with warm water is plenty. Avoid solvent cleaners and abrasive creams, which can take the sheen off the plastic.
Is it suitable for a bathroom or outdoors?
No. It is intended for dry indoor rooms only, so hallways, bedrooms, kitchens and living spaces rather than wet or exposed positions.
Is there a warranty?
Yes, it carries a ten year warranty.
