Description

The Dot is a square recessed downlight with a tiltable GU10 lamp holder set inside a black aluminium bezel and a plaster-in frame. The outer frame is designed to be skimmed over with plaster during installation, leaving only the square black bezel visible once the ceiling is finished. The lamp holder tilts up to approximately 30 degrees from vertical, allowing light to be aimed at a feature wall, artwork, or specific area of a room.

Designed for new-build residential, refurbishment projects, and commercial fit-outs where a flush, architectural ceiling finish is needed, the Dot suits living rooms, hallways, bedrooms, retail spaces, and hospitality interiors. The 112mm x 90mm aperture and 42mm height fit standard UK ceiling voids with 100mm+ clearance above the plasterboard. The GU10 fitting accepts any standard GU10 LED or halogen bulb up to 50W (sold separately), giving control over colour temperature, beam angle, and dimming behaviour.

The black powder-coated aluminium bezel absorbs ceiling reflections and creates a defined contrast against white or light-grey plaster, giving the fitting a graphic, grid-like appearance when used in multiples. The IP20 rating restricts use to dry indoor areas — it is not suitable for bathrooms, wet rooms, or outdoor soffits. The plaster-in frame requires careful installation to avoid plaster getting into the lamp holder recess during skimming.

Frequently Asked

What ceiling void depth is required?

The fitting is 42mm high, so a minimum 100mm void clearance above the plasterboard is recommended to allow for the lamp holder, bulb length, and wiring connections. GU10 LED bulbs are typically 50-55mm long.

Can it be used in bathrooms?

No. The IP20 rating means it is only suitable for dry indoor areas. For bathrooms, wet rooms, or outdoor soffits, you need a fitting rated IP44 or higher.

How is the plaster-in frame installed?

The outer frame is fixed to the ceiling joists or noggins before plasterboarding. The plasterboard is cut to fit around the frame, then the frame edges are skimmed over with plaster to create a flush finish. The black bezel and lamp holder are fitted after plastering is complete.

What bulb should I use?

The fitting takes any standard GU10 bulb up to 50W. Most installations use a GU10 LED between 4-7W and 2700K-3000K warm white for ambient lighting, or 4000K cool white for task lighting in kitchens or offices. Beam angle depends on use — narrow (25-38°) for accent lighting, wide (60-100°) for general room light.
