Description

The Desigual is a 535mm tall semi-flush ceiling light built around a vertical matt black frame that suspends a single frosted opal sphere inside an open geometric cage. The frame creates a rectangular column of matt black metalwork measuring 285mm square at the ceiling plate, with the opal shade positioned centrally within the structure. The single E27 bulb fitting inside the frosted glass casts diffused light outward through the sphere and between the frame's linear outlines.

Designed for entrance halls, stairwells and above dining tables where ceiling height allows for a longer drop fitting without full pendant suspension, the Desigual suits ceiling heights of 2.6m or above. The 535mm total height projects further than a standard flush or semi-flush fitting, making the light a focal point rather than background ambient lighting. The vertical orientation suits narrow hallways and staircases where a wider horizontal fitting would visually overwhelm the space.

The matt black finish on the metal frame absorbs rather than reflects light, keeping visual focus on the illuminated opal sphere rather than on metalwork reflections. The frosted opal shade diffuses light evenly in all directions, providing ambient illumination rather than directed task light. The fitting takes a single E27 (Edison screw) bulb, sold separately. Most users pair this with a 6-10W LED globe bulb in warm white (2700K-3000K) for ambient hall or stairwell lighting.

Is it suitable for low ceilings?

The 535mm height makes this better suited to ceiling heights of 2.6m or above. In rooms with 2.4m ceilings the fitting may sit too low for comfortable headroom beneath it.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you use a dimmable E27 bulb and pair it with a compatible dimmer switch. The fitting itself is passive and does not contain dimming electronics.

How is the opal shade cleaned?

The frosted opal glass can be wiped with a soft cloth dampened with water or glass cleaner. Switch off the power and allow the bulb to cool before cleaning. The matt black frame can be dusted with a dry microfibre cloth.
