Desigual 1 Light Semi-Flush Ceiling Light - Matt Black

The Desigual is a 285mm semi-flush ceiling light built around a matt black cubic frame encasing a single frosted white opal glass globe suspended on a short drop. The frame sits 405mm below the ceiling rose, with the opal sphere positioned centrally within the cube. The E27 bulb fitting inside the sphere (bulb sold separately) casts light through the frosted glass, diffusing it evenly across the interior of the cube and outward through the open-sided frame.

Designed for rooms with ceiling heights of 2.3m or above where a full pendant would hang too low, the Desigual suits hallways, landings, compact bedrooms and alcoves requiring a focal light source without significant vertical projection. The 285mm square footprint provides presence without dominating smaller ceiling areas. The open-faced cubic frame allows the opal sphere to remain visible from multiple angles, creating a three-dimensional geometric composition rather than a flat ceiling-mounted disc.

The matt black finish on the metal frame provides a low-sheen surface that absorbs reflections and pairs cleanly with both monochrome and warm-toned interiors. The frosted white opal glass contrasts sharply with the black metalwork, creating a defined edge between the frame and the light source. At 2.4kg the fitting requires secure fixing to a ceiling joist or into a plasterboard ceiling with appropriate cavity fixings.

What bulb does it take?

The Desigual takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K for ambient lighting in hallways or bedrooms.

Is it dimmable?

Yes, provided you use a dimmable E27 bulb and a compatible dimmer switch. The fitting itself has no electronic components that would prevent dimming.

What ceiling height is needed?

The 405mm drop below the ceiling rose means the bottom of the glass sphere sits approximately 41cm below the ceiling surface. This works in rooms with ceiling heights of 2.3m or above without the fitting sitting into a typical standing eye-line.

How is the opal glass cleaned?

The frosted opal sphere can be wiped with a dry microfibre cloth when cool. For more stubborn marks, a slightly damp cloth with water is acceptable, but avoid soaking the glass or using chemical sprays that may streak the frosted finish.
