Description

Sand black, low and round, this is a table lamp reduced to its essentials: a compact base, a rotary dimmer under the hand, and an E27 holder left open for the lamp of your choosing. Because so little is hidden, the lamp itself becomes the ornament, and the shapes that suit it run from a plain GLS to a full globe, a squirrel cage ST64 or a slim tubular T45. The base measures 7cm across and 11cm tall, so it takes up next to no room on a shelf edge or a crowded bedside table.

We reach for this where a light needs to sit low and stay quiet: beside a bed, on a hall table beneath a mirror, at the end of a run of books, or paired on a sideboard. The rotary dimmer sits on the body, so brightness is set by hand rather than at the wall, and it will wind down to a soft glow last thing at night when a dimmable lamp is fitted. Up to 40W is permitted, though a modest LED gives all the light a base this size needs. It suits renters and anyone who rearranges often, since it lifts and moves to another socket without fuss.

The sand black finish is matt rather than glossy, dark enough to read as a silhouette against a pale wall.
