Description

This is a small lamp base built to put the lamp itself on show. The body measures 70mm across and stands 110mm tall in a pearl black finish, a soft, low-sheen black that keeps the base quiet and lets whatever bulb you choose do the talking. It takes an E27 lamp and has a rotary dimmer on the fitting, so brightness is set by hand at the lamp rather than at the wall, provided the bulb you fit is a dimmable one.

Because the footprint is barely wider than a mug, it slots in where a conventional shaded lamp would crowd the surface: a narrow bedside table, a shelf of books, the corner of a desk, a hall console beside a bowl of keys. We tend to reach for it when someone wants a decorative filament or opal globe seen in full, and we would choose a warm LED globe here for a soft pool of light rather than a working beam. It suits flats, rented rooms and bedrooms where a plug-in light on a nearby socket is easier than anything wired in.

The base is double insulated and rated for dry indoor rooms, so keep it away from basins and splashes. The pearl black surface asks very little: a dry microfibre cloth now and then, no sprays or scouring, and let the bulb go cold before you change it. Bulbs of up to 40W can be used, which gives plenty of scope across globe, teardrop and tubular shapes. It carries a one year warranty. We stock the same base in sand black and in satin nickel, so a pair either side of a bed can match or contrast as you prefer. Lamps are not included.
