Description

The Curtis medium wall light features a cascade of interlocking brass rings arranged in descending sizes, forming a sculptural bracket beneath a 290mm cylindrical fabric shade. The rings are finished in aged brass, which gives the metal a warm, slightly tarnished tone distinct from polished or brushed brass. An E27 bulb (sold separately, max 60W) sits inside the off-white fabric shade, diffusing light through the textile weave.

Designed for hallways, bedrooms and living rooms where wall space permits a 521mm-tall fitting, the Curtis provides ambient light through the shade while the brass ring sculpture beneath adds decorative interest when the light is off. The 128mm projection from the wall keeps the shade clear of furniture but brings the fitting forward enough to cast light laterally along the wall plane rather than just straight down. The fabric shade softens the light output compared to an exposed-bulb fitting, making it suitable for positions where direct glare would be uncomfortable.

The aged brass finish develops naturally over time and varies slightly between individual pieces depending on how the metal oxidises. The rings themselves are hollow-formed rather than solid, which keeps the overall weight manageable for typical plasterboard fixings with appropriate wall plugs. The off-white fabric shade is removable for cleaning or bulb changes and sits on a metal carrier frame attached to the top ring. The 290mm shade diameter provides enough diffusion area to balance a 6-10W LED or equivalent 40-60W halogen/filament bulb without the shade appearing over-bright.

Frequently Asked

What bulb does the Curtis take?

The fitting takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K for ambient bedroom or hallway lighting.

Can the fabric shade be cleaned?

The shade is removable for cleaning. Dust regularly with a soft brush or microfibre cloth. For more thorough cleaning, vacuum gently using an upholstery attachment. Avoid water or fabric cleaners unless the shade is heavily soiled, and test any cleaner on an inconspicuous area first.

What wall fixings are needed?

The Curtis mounts via a standard circular backplate fixed to the wall. On plasterboard, use appropriate cavity wall fixings rated for the combined weight of the fitting and shade. On solid masonry, standard wall plugs and screws are sufficient. The backplate has mounting holes for typical UK wall box centres.

Does the aged brass finish tarnish further over time?

The aged brass finish is a deliberate patina applied during manufacture, designed to look slightly oxidised from new. The finish may develop further natural tarnishing over years depending on humidity and air quality, which is characteristic of brass. This is not a defect.
