Description

This miniature mantel clock brings a game of cricket to the shelf. A round clock face is set into a row of wickets topped with their bails, a cricket bat stands tall beside them and a ball rests at their foot. It is made from metal alloy with a silver plated finish, mostly a soft satin silver, while a polished silver bezel frames the white dial. The dial has Roman numerals and slim black hands that read clearly, and the ball shows its stitched seam in fine detail. The whole piece stands 10.5cm tall, 5.7cm wide and 3.5cm deep. That is small enough for a narrow ledge, and the face stays easy to read up close.

As a mantel clock it sits happily on a mantelpiece. Its flat rectangular base means it stands just as well on a bookshelf, a desk or a bedside table, with no wall or fixing needed. The cricket theme gives it plenty of character in a study, a home office or a living room, and it makes a thoughtful gift for anyone aged 13 and over. It is a clock that earns its place twice: it keeps the time, and it nods to long summer afternoons at the crease.

Inside is a quartz movement for steady timekeeping. It is powered by one LR66 battery, which is included, so the clock is ready to set and stand as soon as it comes out of its packaging. When the battery needs changing, you reach it from the back of the case behind the dial. For care, dust it with a soft dry cloth and avoid abrasive cleaners or polishes, which can dull a plated finish. We like it best given a little space of its own, perhaps beside a few books or a framed print, where the bat, ball and wickets can be seen from every side.
