Description

Two opal white glass shades sit on antique brass metalwork, giving a soft, diffused light rather than anything sharp. At 32cm across, it reads as a modest horizontal band on the wall. Each shade takes an E14 lamp and we would fit golf ball LEDs here for a warm, even glow. There is no switch on the fitting, so it runs from the wall switch, and it will dim where dimmable lamps and a suitable dimmer are used.

The spread of light makes it useful either side of a bed, where it sits at a comfortable height for reading, and along a hallway or landing that needs lifting without a ceiling fitting. It is one we reach for in rooms with low or sloping ceilings, where a pendant would hang awkwardly. In a dining room it works alongside a pendant over the table, filling in the corners the pendant leaves dark. The opal glass and softened brass keep it quiet enough for a period sitting room and plain enough for a newer house, and it is intended for dry rooms indoors on a standard household circuit.

Glass and metal throughout, with the antique brass given a slightly aged, low shine finish that warms as soon as the lamps are on. Wipe the glass with a barely damp cloth and dry it straight away; a dry duster is enough for the brass, and nothing abrasive. It carries a one year warranty. We stock the same wall light in satin nickel, with single shade wall lights in both finishes and matching ceiling fittings if you want the range to run through a hall and up the stairs. Lamps are not included.
