Description

The Cool is a 380mm diameter table lamp moulded from matt white polyethylene into a mushroom-shaped sculptural form, with a bulbous base supporting a gently curved conical shade. Two E27 bulbs sit inside the hollow form, one in the base, one in the shade, casting diffused light through the translucent polyethylene in both directions. The lamp stands 540mm tall and weighs 3.2kg, giving it a substantial presence on side tables, console units and low shelving.

Designed for living rooms, bedrooms and lounge areas where ambient rather than task lighting is needed, the Cool provides soft indirect light that diffuses through the entire white form when lit. The polyethylene acts as the diffuser, so no separate shade or glass is needed. The material itself glows when the bulbs are on. The seamless moulded construction means no visible seams, joints or assembly lines interrupt the smooth surface.

The matt white finish absorbs rather than reflects room light during the day, so the lamp reads as a white sculptural object when switched off. When lit, the dual E27 bulbs (sold separately) create balanced illumination from both the base and the shade, preventing the heavy shadow that single-bulb designs can cast. Dimmer compatibility depends on the bulbs chosen. Pair with dimmable LED or halogen E27 bulbs and a compatible wall dimmer for variable brightness control.

What bulbs does the Cool take?

The lamp requires two E27 bulbs, sold separately. Most users pair this with warm-white LED bulbs between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K to create ambient light without excessive brightness. The polyethylene diffuses the light, so choosing a lower wattage than you would for a direct-light fitting often works better.

Is it dimmable?

The lamp itself supports dimming if you pair it with dimmable E27 bulbs and a compatible wall dimmer. Check the bulb packaging for dimmer compatibility before purchasing.

How is the polyethylene cleaned?

Wipe the matt white surface with a dry or slightly damp microfibre cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners, solvents or polishes, which can damage the polyethylene finish. For stubborn marks, a mild soap solution on a damp cloth works, followed by a dry wipe.

Where does the cable exit?

The mains cable exits from the base of the lamp and requires a nearby wall socket or floor outlet. The cable is not designed to be concealed within furniture, so placement near a plug socket is needed.
