Description

The Cleveland is a 2.3m traditional lamp post with a single lantern head finished in weathered bronze aluminium. The urn-shaped lantern sits on a tapered post with turned detailing and a flared base, housing clear seeded glass panels that diffuse light from a single E27 bulb (sold separately, up to 60W). The IP44 rating protects the fitting against rain and dust for year-round outdoor installation.

Designed for driveways, garden paths, front entrances and larger paved areas, the Cleveland provides ambient lighting across a 4-6m radius depending on bulb choice and placement. The 2325mm height positions the light source well above head height, reducing glare while distributing illumination downwards and outwards. The seeded glass adds texture to the light pattern, softening the beam without significantly reducing output. The weathered bronze finish develops naturally over time in outdoor conditions, deepening the patina.

The aluminium construction gives the post weather resistance without the weight of cast iron, while retaining the turned profile and proportions of a period street lamp. The E27 socket accepts standard Edison screw bulbs including LED filament styles that replicate the appearance of gas-era lamps, or higher-output LED corn bulbs for functional path lighting. The fitting requires hard-wired mains connection and benefits from installation into a concrete footing for stability on exposed sites.

What does IP44 mean for outdoor use?

IP44 indicates the fitting is protected against solid objects larger than 1mm (dust and small debris) and water splashes from any direction. This makes the Cleveland suitable for exposed garden positions, driveways and pathways where it will encounter rain, but not for positions subject to direct water jets or submersion.

What bulb should I use?

The E27 socket accepts any standard Edison screw bulb up to 60W. For a traditional look, use a warm-white LED filament bulb (2200K-2700K, 4-8W). For brighter functional lighting on paths or driveways, a 12-15W LED provides more output while staying within the 60W thermal rating.

How is the lamp post installed?

The Cleveland requires hard-wired mains connection (230V) and installation into a concrete footing or secure ground anchor. The post base should be set into concrete to a depth of 300-400mm for stability. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician in accordance with current wiring regulations.

Will the weathered bronze finish change over time?

Yes. The weathered bronze finish is designed to develop a deeper patina when exposed to outdoor conditions. The aluminium base metal does not corrode, but the surface finish will darken and may show verdigris-style tonal variation depending on local environmental conditions.
