Description

The smoked finish over this globe lamp knocks the edge off the LED behind it, so the light comes out low and amber rather than bright and white. The globe measures 80mm across, the cap is E27, and it draws 4W. The colour is 2100K, an extra warm tone nearer to candlelight than to ordinary warm white, and the tint keeps the glow soft enough to look at directly. It dims too, as long as the circuit has a dimmer suited to LED loads, which is worth checking before you buy.

This is a lamp for fittings that show the bulb off: open pendants, cage frames, bare flex drops over a kitchen island, a pair either side of a bed. Because the output is deliberately modest, we treat it as atmosphere rather than working light, and we would put brighter downlights or a shaded reading lamp alongside it where real task light is wanted. It suits dining rooms, snugs, hallways and bar corners, and it comes into its own in the evening once the rest of the house has been turned down. We reach for it whenever a clear lamp would sit too harsh in the eye.

The outline is a plain round globe on a screw cap, so it reads as a single warm point wherever it hangs, and it carries a three year warranty. For cleaning, switch off at the socket first and give it a moment to cool, then take the dust off with a dry lint-free cloth; sprays and household cleaners are best kept well away from the smoked surface. We would hang it where the whole globe can be seen, on a fabric flex or in a simple open holder, rather than tucking it up inside a shade. A compatible dimmer is not supplied.
