Description

The Citronic EC20 is a pair of miniature cardioid condenser microphones built for stereo recording and close work around a kit or ensemble. Each capsule uses a unidirectional cardioid pickup pattern, which favours sound arriving from the front and rejects a good deal of spill from the sides and rear. That makes the pair a sensible choice for capturing a defined image without picking up too much of the room.

With a frequency response of 50Hz to 17kHz and ultra-high sensitivity, the EC20 handles detail well across most sources. A 10dB pad switch lets you drop the level for loud sources so you can record high SPLs without overloading the input, and the low roll off switch cuts low-end rumble to reduce popping and handling noise. Maximum input SPL is 136dB, so there is plenty of headroom for drums and other loud material.

Each microphone measures 83 x 20mm and weighs 28g, so they sit neatly on overheads, as drop mics for a chorus section, or as a matched pair for stereo work. They need 9 to 52V phantom power (sometimes written as +48V on a mixer or interface), supplied over the balanced XLR connection. Output impedance is 200 Ohms and sensitivity is rated at -45dB, giving a clean, usable signal into most preamps.
