Description

The Citronic CU-POD2 is a mini studio condenser microphone built for podcasting and vocal recording. It uses a 16mm back-electret capsule driven by an onboard preamp, with a front-mounted volume control so you can set your level without reaching for the computer. Connection to a PC or Mac is handled through the supplied USB type B lead, and it works as a plug and play USB audio device, so there is no separate audio interface or driver to install.

The whole assembly sits in a silver coated die-cast body with a black steel grille protecting the capsule, and the all metal construction gives it a solid feel on the desk. We supply it with a collar clamp for standard microphone stands and a mini folding tripod for table-top use, so you can start recording straight away. The 1.5m USB A to B lead is included in the box.

The cardioid polar pattern picks up sound from the front while rejecting more of what comes from behind, which helps keep room noise and off-axis sound out of your recordings. Frequency response runs from 20Hz to 20kHz, with a signal to noise ratio of 78dB and sensitivity of -34dB (±2dB). Audio is captured at 16-bit with a sample rate of either 44.1kHz or 48kHz. The microphone itself weighs 148g and measures 137 x 48 x 44mm, so it stays compact whether you clamp it to a stand (US: boom arm) or leave it on the tripod. It is a straightforward option for anyone starting out with spoken word or vocal work at a desk.
