Description

The Citronic CU-50 is a compact USB condenser microphone built for podcasting and vocal recording. It uses a 14mm back-electret capsule driven by an onboard preamp, giving you a clear signal straight into a PC or Mac. Connection is via the supplied USB type B lead, and the microphone works as a plug and play USB audio device, so there are no drivers to install and no separate audio interface to buy.

Two illuminated buttons on the front handle the switchable echo effect and the mute function, both easy to reach while you record. The polar pattern is cardioid, which picks up sound from the front and rejects more of what comes from behind, useful for keeping room noise down. Frequency response runs from 20Hz to 20kHz, with a signal to noise ratio of 78dB and sensitivity of -40dB. The microphone samples at 16-bit and either 44.1kHz or 48kHz.

The body is black anodised die-cast metal with a large steel grille over the capsule, so the whole assembly feels solid on the desk. It comes with a collar clamp for standard mic stands and a mini folding tripod for table-top use, plus a 1.5m USB A to B lead. The microphone alone weighs 272g and measures 147 x 50mm in diameter. If you want one kit for recording at your desk, it covers the basics without extra hardware.

Frequently Asked

Do I need an audio interface with the CU-50?

No. It connects over USB as a plug and play audio device, so it works directly with a PC or Mac without a separate interface or drivers.

What is included in the box?

You get the microphone, a collar clamp for standard mic stands, a mini folding tripod for desk use, and a 1.5m USB A to B lead.

What polar pattern does it use?

Cardioid. It captures sound from the front and rejects more from the rear, which helps reduce background noise during recording.

Can I turn the echo effect off?

Yes. The echo and mute functions are each controlled by an illuminated button on the front, so you can switch them on or off as needed.

What sample rates does it support?

It records at 16-bit with a sample rate of either 44.1kHz or 48kHz.

Is the microphone well built?

The body is black anodised die-cast metal with a large steel grille over the capsule, so it holds up well on a desk.
