Description
This ceramic biscuit barrel takes the form of a seated cockapoo, dressed for Christmas in a red bobble hat and a striped scarf. Its coat is a soft light brown, modelled in curly tufts from the floppy ears down to four neat paws, with dark eyes, a black nose and a little pink tongue peeping from a smiling mouth. The hat has a white pompom on top and a band striped in red, green and white, finished with a sprig of holly, while the matching scarf wraps the neck and hangs down the chest with a white pompom at its end. It stands 30cm tall, 14cm wide and 17.5cm deep.
The whole head lifts away as the lid, and the body becomes the barrel itself, with a wide round opening that makes reaching in for a biscuit easy. At 30cm tall it has real presence on a kitchen worktop, a dresser or a sideboard through the festive weeks, yet its slim footprint keeps it compact enough for a busy counter. Keep it filled with biscuits, gingerbread or other festive treats for visitors, or set it out on the table when friends drop by. It also makes a cheerful Christmas gift, especially filled with homemade biscuits before you wrap it.
It is made from ceramic with a glossy glaze, the fur picked out in warm light brown tones and the hat and scarf in bright festive red, green and white, while the inside is glazed a pale cream. As good practice for glazed ceramic, wipe it inside and out with a soft damp cloth and dry it thoroughly before refilling, and lift the head with care. We like it beside the kettle with a few sprigs of real holly nearby, where it greets everyone who comes in for a cup of tea and a biscuit all through Christmas.
