Description

The Chord OD-50 is an overdrive and distortion pedal built for guitar, with separate Gain, Tone and Level controls that let you shape the sound to suit your playing. Between those three knobs you can move from a natural, open drive that adds a little grit to your clean tone, right through to heavier saturated distortion. There's plenty of ground in between for rhythm work, lead lines and everything else you might want to cover.

We think the appeal here is range. Roll the gain back for a mild breakup that responds to how hard you pick, or push it forward for a thicker, more saturated wall of sound. The Tone control lets you brighten or warm things up to match your amp and guitar, while the Level knob sets how loud the pedal sits against your clean signal. That makes it easy to set up as an always-on drive or a boost you kick in for solos.

Power comes from a 9V battery, and a PP3 is included in the box so you can plug in and play straight away. If you'd rather run it from your board, it also takes an optional DC adaptor. The housing is aluminium with a rubber base to keep it steady on the floor, and at 115 x 68 x 47mm and 275g it's a compact unit that won't crowd a busy pedalboard. It's a straightforward, honest overdrive that gives you the tones you need without a lot of fuss.

Frequently Asked

What controls does the OD-50 have?

Three controls: Gain, Tone and Level. Gain sets how much drive or distortion you get, Tone shapes the brightness, and Level sets the output volume against your clean signal.

How is the pedal powered?

It runs on a 9V battery, and a PP3 battery is included in the box. You can also power it from an optional DC adaptor if you'd rather use your pedalboard supply.

Can it do both overdrive and distortion?

Yes. With the gain low you get mild, open drive tones, and turning it up gives heavier saturated distortion, with all the points in between.

How big is the pedal?

It measures 115 x 68 x 47mm and weighs 275g, so it's a compact unit that fits easily onto most pedalboards.

What is the pedal made from?

The housing is aluminium with a rubber base, which helps keep it stable on the floor during use.
