Choice Plus Electronic Room Thermostat - White

The Sangamo Choice Plus is a wired electronic room thermostat with a rotary temperature dial, blue LED call-for-heat indicator, and TPI (Time Proportional and Integral) control logic designed to reduce boiler cycling and improve heating efficiency. The dial covers a 5°C to 30°C set temperature range in clear increments, and the electronic sensor inside responds to room temperature changes within 0.5°C or 1°C (user-selectable) to trigger or cut heating demand.

Designed for standard domestic and light commercial heating systems, the Choice Plus controls gas, oil and electric boilers via a volt-free relay contact rated at 10A on 240V AC. The thermostat is wired as a switching device in the heating circuit, typically mounted at approximately 1.5m height in a hallway or main living space away from direct heat sources. The TPI algorithm reduces overshoot and undershoot by cycling the boiler on and off proportionally as the set temperature is approached, which in turn reduces wear on the boiler and can lower fuel consumption compared to basic on/off thermostats.

The white finish suits neutral interiors and the 90mm x 92mm faceplate has a low profile of 46mm projection from the wall once fitted. The rotary dial has tactile detents at each degree mark, and the blue LED in the upper section illuminates when the thermostat is calling for heat. The Choice Plus does not require batteries or an external power supply — it draws power from the 240V AC heating circuit wiring.

What is TPI control and how does it improve efficiency?

TPI (Time Proportional and Integral) control cycles the boiler on and off in shorter bursts as the room approaches the set temperature, rather than running continuously until the target is reached. This reduces overshoot, cuts fuel waste, and extends boiler lifespan by reducing the number of full start-stop cycles.

What boiler types is the Choice Plus compatible with?

The thermostat works with gas, oil and electric boilers via a volt-free relay contact rated at 10A on 240V AC. It replaces the switching function of a standard room thermostat in conventional heating systems. It is not compatible with OpenTherm or smart heating systems requiring digital communication.

Does it require batteries or external power?

No. The Choice Plus draws power directly from the 240V AC heating circuit wiring, so there are no batteries to replace and no separate power supply needed.

Can the temperature swing be adjusted?

Yes. The thermostat can be set to trigger heating at either 0.5°C or 1°C below the set temperature. The narrower 0.5°C swing provides tighter temperature control but may cycle the boiler more frequently, while the 1°C swing reduces cycling at the cost of slightly wider room temperature variation.
