Choice Plus Electronic Room Thermostat Tamper Proof - White

The Choice Plus is an electronic room thermostat with a tamper-resistant security cover, designed for heating control in commercial buildings, schools, care homes and rental properties where unauthorised temperature adjustment needs to be prevented. The thermostat uses an electronic sensor for temperature measurement and TPI (Time Proportional and Integral) control to cycle the boiler efficiently without temperature overshoot.

The unit mounts on a standard UK single-gang back box and switches heating loads up to 10A at 240V AC, making it compatible with most domestic and light commercial boilers, underfloor heating manifolds and electric panel heaters. The temperature range is adjustable from 5°C to 30°C behind the security cover, which is fixed with a Torx security screw to prevent casual tampering. The large adjustment dial on the face remains visible through the clear cover so occupants can see the current setting.

TPI control minimises boiler cycling by adjusting the on/off ratio of the heating circuit as room temperature approaches the set point, reducing wear on the boiler and maintaining closer temperature stability than simple on/off thermostats. The temperature swing (the differential between heating on and heating off) can be set to either 0.5°C or 1°C depending on how tightly controlled the room temperature needs to be — 0.5°C gives tighter control at the cost of more frequent switching, while 1°C reduces switching frequency at the expense of a slightly wider temperature band.

The white finish and compact 90mm x 92mm faceplate suit institutional and commercial interiors where the thermostat needs to blend into painted walls without drawing attention. The unit weighs 190g and sits flush to the wall once installed on a 25mm back box.

How is the tamper-resistant cover secured?

The clear cover fits over the temperature adjustment dial and is fixed to the base with a Torx security screw. This prevents casual adjustment by occupants while still allowing the current temperature setting to be seen through the cover. A matching Torx driver is required to remove the cover for setting changes.

What is TPI control and why does it matter?

TPI (Time Proportional and Integral) control adjusts how long the heating stays on in each cycle as the room approaches the set temperature. Instead of running the boiler continuously until the exact set point is reached and then shutting off completely, TPI shortens the on-periods as temperature rises, reducing overshoot and preventing the room from cycling between too hot and too cold. This saves energy and extends boiler life.

What switching capacity does it have?

The thermostat has a 10A switch rating at 240V AC, which handles up to 2,400W of resistive load. This is sufficient for most domestic boilers, zone valves, and small electric panel heaters. For loads above 10A, wire the thermostat to operate a contactor rather than switching the load directly.

Can the temperature swing be adjusted?

Yes. The thermostat can be configured for either 0.5°C or 1°C temperature swing (the difference between the heating switching on and off). The 0.5°C setting maintains tighter temperature control but causes more frequent boiler cycling. The 1°C setting reduces switching frequency at the cost of a slightly wider temperature variation.
