Description

The Chitose is an artificial succulent with long, pointed green leaves rising from a small rounded pot, its surface topped with a layer of brown pebbles. The leaves carry a fine dimpled texture and turn a paler green towards their centre, much like a young aloe, while the pot has a pale grey, softly mottled finish that looks like weathered stone. It stands 15.5cm tall and 10cm across and weighs just 0.23KG, so it sits happily on the narrowest shelf or windowsill. Made from plastic and papier-mâché, it is light enough to move from room to room whenever you fancy a change.

We think of it as greenery for the places where a real plant would struggle or simply be forgotten: a desk, a bedside table, a bookcase or a hallway shelf. It needs no watering, no feeding and no repotting, so it suits anyone who travels, works long hours or has never had much luck keeping houseplants alive. The green leaves and grey pot sit comfortably beside natural wood, linen and neutral walls, and it adds a small touch of life to a side table or a stack of books. In an office or a rented flat, it brings a bit of green without any commitment.

Because it is compact, it also works well in groups, with two or three set along a shelf or mantelpiece giving a fuller look without taking much room. Papier-mâché is a paper-based material and does not like water, so keep the whole piece dry and away from damp spots such as the edge of a sink or a steamy window. The leaves can be dusted every so often with a soft, dry cloth or a gentle brush. Kept indoors and dry, it asks very little of you beyond an occasional dust.

Frequently Asked

Does the Chitose artificial plant need watering?

No. It is an artificial plant, so it needs no watering or feeding, and it is best kept dry because papier-mâché is a paper-based material.

How big is the Chitose artificial plant?

It stands 15.5cm tall and measures 10cm across, a compact size for a shelf, desk, bedside table or windowsill. It weighs 0.23KG.

Which colours are the leaves, pebbles and pot?

The leaves are a deep green that turns paler towards the centre, the top of the pot is covered in brown pebbles, and the pot itself is a pale, mottled grey.

Which materials does it use?

It is made from plastic and papier-mâché, which keeps it light at 0.23KG and easy to move between rooms.

Is the Chitose plant suitable for a garden or patio?

We recommend keeping it indoors. Papier-mâché is paper-based and does not like rain or damp, so a dry room in the house suits it best.

How do I clean the leaves?

Wipe them every so often with a soft, dry cloth or brush the dust away gently, keeping water well clear of the whole piece.
