This scented candle pairs a gentle honey and oats fragrance with a smoky grey jar painted with chickens, two wicks and a natural-toned lid. It is a 400g candle in a blend of 70% soy wax and 30% paraffin wax, set in a round jar that stands 10.6cm tall, 9.8cm across and 9.9cm deep. Russet and cream hens wander around the outside, one pecking at the ground and another standing proud, their feathers picked out in warm browns against the grey. The jar deepens to a darker smoke at the base, and the pale wax inside softens the colour from within.

We like it in a country kitchen, where the chickens feel right at home and the honey and oats scent sits comfortably alongside the smell of baking. It suits a dresser, a sideboard in the dining room or a coffee table in the living room just as well. At 10.6cm tall it fits on a shelf without crowding, and the two wicks mean two flames for a fuller glow on a winter evening. With its lid on it looks tidy between burns, so it can stay out on show rather than being tucked away in a cupboard.

The round lid fits the top to keep dust off the wax when the candle is not in use. Put it back only once the candle has fully cooled.
