Chelsea 1 Light Outdoor Wall Lantern - Copper

The Chelsea is a 790mm copper outdoor wall lantern with a six-panel clear polycarbonate enclosure, a turned copper finial and crown, and a black powder-coated aluminium scrollwork bracket. The lantern housing is handcrafted from copper sheet, left unsealed to develop a natural verdigris patina over time as it weathers. A single E27 bulb fitting sits inside the glazed enclosure (bulb sold separately, 60W max).

Designed for external mounting on front entrances, porch walls, courtyard facades and garden outbuildings, the Chelsea provides downward and outward ambient light suitable for guiding visitors to doorways and illuminating step approaches. The IP44 rating protects against dust and water splashes from any direction, allowing the lantern to be installed in exposed positions subject to rain. The 400mm projection from the wall gives clearance above typical porch depths and provides downward spill onto doorsteps.

The copper housing is formed from rolled sheet rather than cast, which reduces the wall weight to around 2.5kg but requires mounting to solid masonry with suitable fixings (not included). The black scrollwork bracket provides a tonal contrast to the warm copper and references Victorian street lamp detailing. As the copper weathers it shifts from bright orange-pink through muted browns to green-blue patina, a process that takes 18-36 months depending on local humidity and pollution levels. Polycarbonate glazing is used instead of glass to reduce the risk of breakage and weight.

The Chelsea range includes matching pedestal lanterns, half lanterns and hanging pendants, all sharing the same copper and black finish, allowing coordinated lighting across a facade or driveway entrance. Norlys covers the Chelsea with a 10-year guarantee against manufacturing defects, though the natural patina development is expected and not covered as a fault.

Will the copper change colour over time?

Yes. The copper is unsealed and designed to develop a natural verdigris patina as it oxidises in outdoor air. The colour shifts from bright copper-orange through muted browns to green-blue tones over 18-36 months depending on local climate and pollution. This is an intended feature, not a defect.

What bulb does it take?

The lantern takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED filament bulb at 4-8W and 2200K-2700K for traditional appearance.

Is it suitable for exposed coastal locations?

The IP44 rating protects against rain and splashing. Copper develops patina faster in coastal salt air. The aluminium bracket is powder-coated for corrosion resistance, but exposed coastal conditions may accelerate weathering on both materials. Norlys recommends periodic inspection of fixings in high-salt environments.

What wall fixings are needed?

The lantern weighs approximately 2.5kg and requires mounting to solid masonry with suitable wall plugs and screws (not included). The bracket has pre-drilled holes for fixing. Ensure the wall construction can support the weight and projection before installation.
