Description

A compact capsule lamp on the familiar G9 pins, drawing just 5W and giving 450 lumens. What sets it apart is switchable white: one lamp covers warm white, cool white and daylight, so you can settle on the tone a room actually wants instead of committing at the point of purchase. The body measures 19mm across, small enough to sit unnoticed inside little shades and glass shells, and the clear finish leaves the light source on show where a fitting is designed to reveal it. It is non-dimmable, so it belongs on a plain on-off circuit.

G9 lamps live in wall lights, small pendants, chandelier arms and the glass fittings that need something tidy behind the diffuser, and this one is a sensible replacement across all of them. We reach for a switchable white where one room does two jobs: a kitchen that wants crisp light over the worktop and something softer once the plates are cleared, or a dressing area where you would rather judge colour properly. It also earns its place in a multi-arm fitting, where matching every lamp to the same tone is otherwise a fiddle.

The clear envelope with its white detail keeps the look neutral, so it reads the same whether it sits behind frosted glass or in the open. Wipe it over with a dry cloth only once it has gone cold, and keep water and cleaning sprays well away from the pins; nothing else is needed across its life. We would not recommend it for a fitting on a dimmer, as the switchable circuitry and dimmed supply do not get along. It carries a three year warranty. Fittings that take G9 tend to take several, so we would buy a spare while you are at it and keep the tones consistent from the start.
