Description

A single smoke tinted shade shaped like an upturned wine glass hangs from a slim suspension in antique brass, with black detailing where the bowl meets the fitting. Because the glass is smoked rather than clear, the lamp inside reads as a warm glow instead of a hard bright point, and the bowl measures 25cm across. It takes a single E27 lamp and the drop can be shortened or let out to suit the height of the room. We would choose a globe or a decorative squirrel cage here, since the shape of the lamp is part of what you see.

This is one we reach for where a small pendant does more good than a large one: above a breakfast bar, beside a bed in place of a table lamp, in a hallway, or over a stairwell landing. Paired with a compatible lamp and a dimmer it will dim, which suits a dining room where the light needs to drop back once plates are cleared. Hung on its own it marks a side table nicely, and hung in a row it gives an island a rhythm without crowding the ceiling. The smoked glass softens the view of the lamp for anyone sitting beneath it.

Glass and metal throughout, with the tinted bowl carried on antique brass and black metalwork. Dust the outside of the shade with a dry microfibre cloth and take off fingerprints with one that is barely damp, working when the fitting is off and cold, and leave the glass to dry before switching back on. It carries a two year warranty. Lamps are bought separately. The same wine glass shade runs through the range as a flush fitting in finishes such as matt black, polished chrome and satin nickel, so a low hallway ceiling can echo the pendant without matching it exactly.
