Cawdor E27 Clear Wine Glass Pendant Light 25cm - Matt Black

The shade is a clear glass bowl drawn out like the top of a wine glass, wide at the rim and drawing in to a slim neck where it meets the matt black fitting above. Because the glass is clear, the lamp inside is part of the look rather than something hidden, and the light falls downwards in a soft pool while the room stays visually open. At 25cm across the rim it reads as a small, well proportioned pendant, and the drop is adjustable at the point of fitting so it can hang low over a surface or sit up closer to the ceiling.

It earns its keep over a kitchen island or a breakfast bar, where two or three in a line give even light along the worktop without blocking the view across the room. A single one works just as well above a small dining table, in a hallway, or hung either side of a bed in place of table lamps. We would put a vintage-style LED filament lamp in this one, since the clear glass shows the lamp off; a round globe suits the curve of the bowl, while a longer tubular shape gives a more upright, slender look. With the right lamp and a compatible dimmer it can be dimmed for evenings.

Glass and metal throughout, with the black finish carried in a flat matt that keeps reflections down and sits quietly against both pale and dark ceilings. Keep the glass clear with a lint-free cloth and a little glass cleaner sprayed onto the cloth rather than the shade, working with the fitting switched off and cool. It carries a two year warranty. The same wine glass shape is also made as a flush fitting in a range of finishes and glass tints, including opal, smoke and amber, if you need a version that sits tight to the ceiling. Lamps are not included.

How far down does it hang?

The drop is adjustable from 380mm up to 1750mm, so it suits low ceilings and stairwell heights alike.

Which lamp should I use?

It takes one E27 lamp up to 20W. LED shapes such as GLS A60, globe G80 or G95, ST64 and tubular T185 all work, and the decorative shapes look best behind clear glass.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you fit a dimmable lamp and a dimmer switch matched to it. Neither is supplied with the pendant.

How wide is the shade, and how should I space several over an island?

The rim measures 250mm across. Allowing roughly 45cm to 60cm between centres keeps a row looking deliberate without crowding.

How do I clean the clear glass?

Switch off and let the lamp cool, then wipe the glass with a soft lint-free cloth. Fingerprints lift with glass cleaner applied to the cloth, not sprayed at the fitting.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. Rated IP20, it belongs in dry rooms such as kitchens, dining rooms, bedrooms and hallways.
