Cawdor E27 Wall Light 29.5cm High Clear - Black Chrome

Cawdor sets a faceted clear glass shade on a black chrome frame, with black detailing where the arm meets the wall. The cut facets break the light up as it leaves the glass, so you get bright points and soft shadow rather than one flat wash. It is a compact piece at 23cm wide, and it takes an E27 lamp of up to 20W. A toggle switch sits on the fitting itself, handy where there is no switch within easy reach, and it will dim if you pair a dimmable lamp with a matching dimmer.

With a projection of 26cm it stands a little way off the wall, which suits a hallway that needs light at eye level, a bedside where a table lamp would take up room, or a chimney breast alcove in a sitting room. We would choose a clear ST64 or a globe lamp here, since the filament is part of the look through faceted glass, and a lower output lamp keeps the sparkle from turning glary. Keep it to rooms that stay dry, so hallways, landings and bedrooms rather than a shower room or an open porch.

The frame is plated metal and the shade is glass, and the whole fitting is light enough to handle comfortably on its own. For upkeep, dust the facets with a dry cloth, then lift fingerprints from the plated frame with a barely damp cloth and dry it off straight away; polishes and sprays will dull the black chrome over time. It carries a one year warranty. It takes a single E27 lamp rated up to 20W. LED shapes such as GLS A60, globe G80, ST64 and tubular T45 or T185 all suit the fitting.

Can I put it on a dimmer?

Yes, provided you fit a dimmable lamp and a compatible dimmer. Neither the lamp nor the dimmer is supplied.

How far does it stand out from the wall?

Projection is 260mm, with a width of 230mm and a height of 295mm, so allow a little clearance either side in a narrow hallway.

Does it have its own switch?

Yes, a toggle switch is fitted to the body, so it can be turned on and off at the light.

How should I clean the faceted glass?

Switch off at the wall and let everything cool first, then use a dry cloth on the glass and a barely damp one on the plated frame, drying it immediately. Avoid solvents and metal polishes.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20, which limits it to dry rooms such as bedrooms, landings and living spaces.
