Cawdor E27 Wall Light 26cm High Smoke - Antique Copper

Smoke-tinted jar glass sits in an antique copper frame with black detailing, and a small toggle switch on the body means it can be worked without reaching for a wall switch. The shade is deep enough to hold the lamp well inside it, so what you see is a soft glow rather than a bright point. At 16cm wide it is a compact fitting, and it takes an E27 lamp of up to 20W.

That switch makes it a practical light beside a bed, at the top of the stairs, in a reading corner, or in a pair flanking a mirror. Its projection is modest, so it sits close to the wall and stays clear of shoulders in a narrow hallway. The tinted glass keeps the output gentle, which is what you want last thing at night rather than something that wakes the whole room. It will also dim, given a dimmable lamp and a matching dimmer. We would put a warm white LED GLS in it, or a globe if you like seeing a little more of the lamp through the smoke.

The shade is glass in a smoke tint and the metalwork wears an antique copper finish, with black against it to keep the fitting looking worn-in rather than bright and new. Smoke glass shows fingermarks more readily than opal, so wipe it with a barely damp cloth and dry it off while the lamp is cold; the metal wants nothing more than dusting. It carries a one year warranty. The same Cawdor shape appears through the range as a flush fitting in a good spread of finishes, antique copper with smoke glass among them, so a landing light and its wall lights can be kept in step. Lamps are not included.

What lamp does it take?

One E27 lamp rated up to 20W. Recommended shapes are LED GLS A60, golf ball, globe G80 or tubular T45, and the lamp is bought separately.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you fit a dimmable lamp and pair it with a compatible dimmer. No dimmer is supplied with the light.

How far does it stand off the wall?

Projection is 230mm. It measures 160mm wide and 260mm high overall.

Does it have its own switch?

It does. There is a toggle switch on the fitting, so it can be operated at the light itself.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20, so keep it to dry rooms such as bedrooms, halls and living spaces; a bathroom zone needs a fitting rated for moisture.

How should the smoke glass be cleaned?

With the light off and the lamp cold, use a soft cloth barely dampened with water, then dry the glass to avoid streaking. Avoid solvents and abrasive creams on the copper finish.
