Description

Diamond-cut opal glass, held on a polished chrome body that keeps the whole fitting tight against the ceiling. The pattern in the glass breaks up the light from an E27 lamp, so you get a soft spread rather than a hard bright spot, with a faint sparkle across the facets when the light is on. At 23cm across it is a small fitting, and the chrome edge gives it a bit of shine without pulling attention away from the rest of the room.

This is one we reach for in halls, landings, box rooms and anywhere the ceiling sits low enough that a hanging shade would be in the way of a door or a head. It suits a single lamp up to 20W, which is plenty for a modest room, and dimming is possible if you pair a suitable lamp with a compatible dimmer. Keep it to dry rooms inside the house; a bathroom or a covered porch wants a sealed fitting instead.

The glass is the character here and the chrome is the quiet part, plated to a bright polish and easy enough to keep looking sharp. Dust the glass with a soft cloth, and if fingermarks have found the chrome, a barely damp cloth followed by a dry one will clear them without leaving water spots. It carries a one year warranty.
