Description

The Carlwell is a six-light pendant built from handmade curved glass pieces that cascade in two tiers to form a soft halo of light. The clear, gently shaped glass catches and spreads the glow, while the warm brushed aged brass structure holds the pieces in a rounded, sculptural outline. The two tiers measure 600mm and 385mm across, and the fitting takes six E14 lamps. It hangs from a height-adjustable chain finished with a grey braided fabric flex.

The layered glass suits dining rooms, entrance halls and living rooms with height to fill, where the two-tier halo can be appreciated from below. It gives a warm, ambient glow rather than a hard downlight, so it works as a centrepiece over a table or in the middle of a room. The mix of clear glass and brass keeps it modern while the handmade pieces add a softer, individual touch.

The metalwork is brushed aged brass plate and the curved glass panels are handmade, so slight variation between pieces is part of the look. The grey braided cable adds a considered finish from ceiling to fitting, and the drop adjusts from 530mm to 1930mm on a 1.5 metre chain. It is a Class 1 fitting, so it needs an earth and is best installed by a qualified electrician, and the IP20 rating keeps it to dry indoor rooms. At around 12.3kg it is weighty, so fix it to a sound ceiling. It is dimmable with a compatible trailing edge dimmer and dimmable E14 filament lamps. Wipe the glass and brass with a dry, soft cloth.
