Description

This is a slim table lamp built on a round flat base, with a plain upright stem finished satin black from foot to lampholder. It stands 45cm to the top of the holder on an 18cm base, reading tall and narrow rather than bulky. The single E27 lampholder is switched at the holder by a pull cord, and the lamp is supplied without a shade, so the shape above is yours to choose.

We would use it on a bedside table, a hall console or at either end of a sideboard, where a pull cord is easy to find in the dark without hunting for a switch on the flex. Because the shade is picked separately, the same base can take a tall linen drum in a bedroom or a smaller tapered shade in a study, which makes it useful if you already have a shade you like. Fit an LED lamp of up to 20W; with a dimmable lamp and a compatible dimmer in the circuit, the light will pull down nicely for late evenings.

Construction is double insulated, so no earth connection is called for, and the fitting is meant for dry rooms indoors on an ordinary mains supply. The satin black keeps highlights soft instead of mirror-bright, which is why we tend to reach for it in rooms where a polished brass or chrome lamp would sit too loud. Keeping it tidy takes little: switch off at the socket, then run a dry microfibre cloth over the stem and base; polishes and sprays can dull a satin coating. It carries a one year warranty. Neither the lamp nor the shade is included, so choose both to suit the table it will stand on and the light you want from it.
