Description

Carlton is a compact switched wall light in antique gold, with a shallow backplate, a short upright stem and a lampholder ready for a shade of your choosing. At 11cm wide it holds close to the wall, which makes it useful in the spots where a broader fitting would feel crowded. A rocker switch sits on the body, so the light is controlled at the fitting rather than from across the room. It takes an E27 lamp of up to 20W. The shade and the lamp are not included; see our lamp shades.

We would put this beside a bed, one each side, where the switch to hand matters more than reach; it also earns its place on a narrow landing, in a hallway, or in a guest room where floor space is tight. Because the shade is yours to pick, the light it gives is yours to set too: a lined fabric shade for a soft pool of light, a glass one for something brighter. Dimming is possible where a dimmer and a suitable lamp are used together. Keep it to dry rooms indoors; it is not a fitting for a bathroom zone or a covered porch.

The antique gold reads warm and slightly aged rather than brightly plated, so it settles in with brass hardware, older timber and painted walls without shouting. Wipe it with a dry soft cloth when you dust, with the light switched off, and leave metal polishes and creams alone, since they can dull an aged finish. It carries a one year warranty.
