The seeded glass creates a textured light diffusion, softening the direct glare from candle-style bulbs (sold separately) while allowing the light to spread outward in a warm ambient pattern.

Designed for front doors, porches, garage entrances and covered patio walls, the Carlson carries an IP44 rating for protection against splashing water from any direction, making it suitable for locations under eaves or canopies where direct rainfall is minimal. The 143mm projection from the wall gives clearance around door frames and the hinged front panel opens on a latch mechanism, allowing bulbs to be changed without removing the entire fitting from the wall bracket.

The rubbed bronze finish on the metal frame shows through as a darker tone with lighter highlights where the coating has been hand-rubbed during manufacture, giving variation across the surface rather than a flat uniform colour. The frame measures 208mm square in footprint and weighs approximately 1.8kg once fitted. The two E14 sockets accept candle bulbs up to 40W each, with most installations using 4-6W warm-white LED candle bulbs for energy efficiency and reduced heat output near the glass panels.

What does the IP44 rating mean for outdoor use?

IP44 provides protection against splashing water from any direction, so the Carlson is suitable for covered outdoor positions such as under porch roofs, eaves or canopies. It is not rated for full exposure to driving rain or direct overhead rainfall, so it should not be fitted on fully exposed walls without overhead shelter.

What bulbs does it take?

The Carlson takes two E14 small Edison screw bulbs, often called candle bulbs, up to 40W each. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users choose 4-6W LED candle bulbs in 2700K-3000K warm white for lower running costs and reduced heat near the glass.

How is the bulb access door opened?

The front glass panel is hinged and secured with a latch mechanism visible on the side of the frame. Releasing the latch allows the panel to swing open for bulb changes without needing to detach the lantern from its wall bracket.
