Description

The Cambridge is a 597mm-tall table lamp with a hand-assembled stained glass shade in the Tiffany tradition, mounted on a cast resin base finished in vintage bronze. The shade combines approximately 200 individual pieces of glass in beige, burnt orange and soft green arranged in an Art Nouveau floral pattern, with each piece wrapped in copper foil and soldered by hand. Two E27 bulb fittings inside the shade provide illumination through the coloured glass.

Designed for bedside tables, writing desks and side tables in living rooms or hallways, the Cambridge sits on a hexagonal weighted base that prevents tipping when the twin pull-chains are operated. The 405mm shade diameter projects warm-toned light across a 2-3m radius, making the lamp suited to reading positions or as ambient accent lighting in rooms with existing overhead fittings. The vintage bronze finish on the resin base and shade cap shows a deliberately aged patina with darker tones in recessed areas.

The stained glass construction means each Cambridge lamp differs slightly in the exact positioning of the colour boundaries and the translucency of individual glass pieces. Under daylight the shade appears as a decorative object with muted earth tones; when lit from within the glass becomes luminous and the pattern gains depth. The resin base mimics the weight and appearance of cast metal at a lower cost and without the corrosion issues of true bronze in humid rooms.

The twin-bulb configuration allows for brighter task lighting than single-bulb Tiffany reproductions, though at 60W maximum per bulb the output remains moderate compared to modern LED desk lamps. Users typically pair the Cambridge with two 6-8W warm LED filament bulbs to mimic the appearance of incandescent light without the heat buildup inside the glass shade.

Frequently Asked

What bulbs does the Cambridge take?

The lamp has two E27 (Edison screw) fittings, each rated up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users choose warm-white LED filament bulbs between 6-8W and 2700K to complement the warm tones of the stained glass without generating excessive heat inside the shade.

Is the stained glass genuine Tiffany?

The Cambridge uses the Tiffany method of hand-assembling individual pieces of coloured glass wrapped in copper foil, but it is a reproduction rather than an original Louis Comfort Tiffany piece. Quoizel produces the shade using traditional hand-soldering techniques developed in the early 20th century.

How is the lamp switched on and off?

Two pull-chains hang from the base of the shade, one for each bulb. This allows both bulbs to be lit together for reading or task work, or a single bulb to be used for lower ambient light.

Does the glass shade vary between lamps?

Yes. Each shade is hand-assembled from individual pieces of stained glass, so the exact positioning of colour boundaries and the translucency of individual pieces differ slightly between lamps. This is characteristic of hand-made stained glass work.
