Description
The Calyra is a 420mm alabaster table lamp built from two solid pieces of carved natural Spanish alabaster: a tapered cylindrical base and a drum-shaped upper shade, joined by a slim natural brass stem. A polished brass loop sits on top of the shade as a sculptural handle, echoing the brass collar at the join. Three G9 lamps inside the shade illuminate the alabaster from within.
This lamp suits bedside tables, console tables, sideboards and entryway surfaces where a softer, decorative light source is wanted alongside or instead of overhead lighting. With three internal G9 lamps the Calyra produces enough ambient light to read by from an adjacent armchair, while the solid alabaster base also glows gently, doubling as a low-level accent light in its own right.
Both the base and shade are cut from natural Spanish alabaster, so the mineral veining and tonal variation differ between individual pieces, particularly visible across the lower section of the base when the lamp is lit. The metalwork is solid copper finished in natural brass, which warms the cool white of the stone at the join and the top loop. Combined height is 420mm with a 300mm shade diameter, giving the Calyra a substantial but not overpowering presence on a typical bedside or console.

Frequently Asked
What bulbs does the Calyra take?
The lamp takes three G9 capsule bulbs inside the upper shade. G9 LEDs typically draw 2-4W each and are widely available in warm white (2700K-3000K), which suits the warm tone of the alabaster best. Bulbs are sold separately.
Does the alabaster vary between pieces?
Yes. Both the base and shade are cut from natural Spanish alabaster, so veining patterns, tonal variation and translucency differ between individual lamps. The base in particular shows distinct mineral markings when illuminated. This is a feature of the natural stone, not a defect.
Does the base also light up?
The three G9 lamps sit inside the upper shade, so the shade is the primary light source. The solid alabaster base does not contain its own internal lamp, but ambient light from the shade above passes through the top of the base, giving it a soft secondary glow when lit.
How is the alabaster cleaned?
Alabaster is porous and softer than marble. Wipe gently with a dry, soft microfibre cloth. For more stubborn marks, a barely-damp cloth with distilled water is acceptable, but avoid soaking the stone and do not use household sprays, polishes or chemical cleaners.
