Description

The Bolla is a 425mm flush ceiling light from Hinkley, pairing a shallow frosted glass dome with a brushed nickel frame built around two curved support arms. Each arm carries a spherical nickel finial at its tip, balancing the visual weight of the glass against the metalwork. The fitting sits 203mm from the ceiling and accepts two E27 bulbs up to 60W each (sold separately), providing ambient light filtered through the frosted glass.

Designed for rooms with ceiling heights below 2.4m where a pendant would hang too low, the Bolla fits hallways, bedrooms, studies and entrance halls without encroaching into headroom. The brushed nickel finish on the frame and ceiling plate pairs with both warm and cool interior palettes, while the frosted glass softens direct bulb glare and distributes light evenly across the ceiling plane. The two-arm construction gives the fitting a horizontal spread that suits rectangular hallways and smaller square rooms.

The glass shade lifts off the frame for bulb changes and cleaning, securing with a friction collar rather than threaded fixings. The brushed nickel finish is applied to solid metal components rather than plated, reducing the risk of the finish wearing through over time. What bulbs does it take?

The Bolla takes two E27 (Edison screw) bulbs up to 60W each. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with warm-white LED bulbs between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K for general room lighting.

Is it suitable for low ceilings?

Yes. The 203mm projection from ceiling to base of glass makes this fitting well-suited to rooms with ceiling heights of 2.2-2.4m where a pendant would hang into the walkable space. The flush design keeps the fitting close to the ceiling plane.

How is the glass shade removed?

The frosted glass dome lifts off the metal frame via a friction collar. There are no threaded rings or complicated fixings — pull the glass gently downwards to separate it from the frame for bulb changes or cleaning.

Can it be fitted to a sloped ceiling?

No. This is a flush ceiling fitting designed for horizontal ceiling surfaces. It cannot be adapted for sloped or vaulted ceilings without custom mounting hardware.
