The Bienville is a 715mm table lamp built around a silver-finished urn base with gold-leafed neck, handles and foot detail, topped with a 460mm diameter cylindrical shade in brushed gold metal. The base takes the form of a classical amphora with twin scrolled handles and a decorative crown piece at the neck, finished in what appears to be distressed gold leaf over the silver body. An E27 bulb fitting inside the shade casts light upwards and downwards through the open top and bottom of the cylinder.

Designed for side tables, console tables and bedside positions in traditional, transitional and Hollywood Regency interiors, the Bienville provides ambient and decorative light rather than task illumination. The 460mm shade diameter suits rooms with generous proportions and furniture at scale — this is not a compact bedside lamp. The brushed gold shade diffuses light softly while the metallic interior reflects it back into the room, creating a warm glow without harsh downward glare.

The silver body finish shows an intentional patina effect where the darker underlayer shows through the top coat, giving an aged or antique appearance. The Bienville takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W maximum. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED between 6-10W and 2700K for ambient evening light.

What size table does it need?

The 460mm diameter shade and classical proportions suit console tables, side tables and bedside tables at least 500mm wide. On narrower surfaces the shade overhangs, which can look unbalanced.

Is the gold finish solid or plated?

The gold detailing on the handles, neck and foot appears to be gold leaf or gold-toned paint applied over the base metal. The brushed gold shade is metal with a brushed gold finish. Neither is solid gold.

Does the shade direct light upwards or downwards?

Both. The cylindrical shade is open at top and bottom, so light from the E27 bulb casts upwards onto the ceiling and downwards onto the table surface, with some side glow through the brushed metal.
