Description

The Belfry is a 3 light chandelier built around a circular wrought iron frame finished in matt black, suspended on a matching black chain from a central stem and ceiling rose. Three E14 candle-style fittings sit on individual drip pans around the ring, each supported by a twisted barley-twist leg with a ball terminal underneath. The main frame carries cast rosette detail between each arm, and the chain can be shortened on installation to convert the chandelier to a semi-flush configuration for lower ceiling heights.

Designed for dining rooms, entrance halls and bedrooms in period, country and Gothic-revival interiors, the Belfry suits ceiling heights from 2.4m upwards, with a minimum drop of 545mm in semi-flush mode and maximum drop of 820mm when the full chain length is used. The 480mm diameter fits comfortably over a 4-6 seat dining table or in a hallway 1.8-2.2m wide without dominating the space. The hand-forged metalwork gives each piece slight variations in the barley-twist pattern and rosette casting, typical of traditional blacksmithing techniques.

The matt black finish absorbs light rather than reflecting it, allowing the chandelier to sit quietly in darker interiors or act as a grounding element in lighter rooms with pale walls and natural materials. The E14 fittings accept candle-style LED or filament bulbs up to 60W each (sold separately), with warm-white bulbs between 2200K and 2700K giving the most historically appropriate appearance when paired with the medieval-style metalwork.

The chandelier uses three E14 (small Edison screw) candle-style bulbs, each rated up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most buyers pair this with warm-white LED candle bulbs between 4-6W and 2200K-2700K for a period-appropriate glow.

Can it be fitted to lower ceilings?

Yes. The 540mm chain can be shortened during installation to reduce the drop to a minimum of 545mm, converting the chandelier to a semi-flush configuration. This suits ceiling heights from 2.4m upwards.

What ceiling rose fitting is needed?

The chandelier comes with a circular ceiling rose that covers a standard UK ceiling outlet. The rose diameter is approximately 100mm and fixes to the ceiling with screws into a suitable joist or noggin.

Is the metalwork painted or powder-coated?

The black finish is applied to hand-forged wrought iron. Elstead typically uses a painted finish on their traditional iron ranges, which gives a matt rather than glossy appearance and allows slight texture variation across the surface.
