Description

This glass tube light-up decoration is filled with a fine string of tiny LEDs, threaded along its length with large and small silver beads that catch the light. The clear tube sits on a silver base with a bright mirror finish, so the whole piece reads as clear glass and silver whether it is lit or not. It stands 20cm tall and 9cm across, a compact size that suits a shelf or a narrow sill without crowding it. Unlit, the beads give a frosty shimmer through the glass; lit, the little lights glow among them and the mirrored base adds its own shine.

Because it runs on batteries, there is no flex to hide and no socket to find, so it can go wherever it looks best. We like it on a mantelpiece, a bedside table, a sideboard or a hallway console, and it brings a little sparkle to a dressing table or a bookshelf in the evening. It is for dry rooms indoors, such as a living room, bedroom, hallway or study. The clear glass and silver suit a pale, modern room as easily as a darker one, and its slim shape leaves room for books, frames and candlesticks around it.

The piece is made from glass, plastic, copper and metal, with the clear glass tube holding the beaded light string and the mirror-finish base below it. It takes three AAA batteries (MN2400), which are not included, so have some to hand. To keep the glass clear, dust it with a soft dry cloth and wipe the outside with a slightly damp cloth when it needs it, keeping moisture away from the base. Set it where the light can bounce off a mirror or a glossy surface, and the silver beads will do the rest.
